Arden Shan

Arden Shan became our daughter in November 2006. She was 11 years of age. It doesn't seem like she has only been with us for a little over two years. I would like to have said we got her the day she was born, because she is such a great daughter. We are truly blessed that God chose for His plan for Arden to intersect with His plan for us.

All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. Psalm 139:16.

Depend on the Lord with whatever you do, and your plans will succeed. Proverbs 6:1-3.

Arden lived in Guangzhou, China (same city as Bret). We traveled in November 2006 to get her (we were in China for Thanksgiving). We kept an on-line journal with pictures from each day of our trip.

This picture is Arden and Payton dressed up for the middle school Halloween school dance. It was Arden's first Halloween ever and she won first prize at the dance for best costume! She was so proud! My sister, Becki (Payton’s Mom), got all the talent and taste in the family and wanted Arden to have a neat costume, so she made these. Payton really wanted to be the waitress (and really didn't want to be an egg), but Becki insisted since it was Arden's first Halloween, she should get to choose. Poor Payton. It is hard growing up white and biological, but being a minority in her own family. But Payton is one of the sweetest kids ever (Mike loves her to pieces), and afterwards I think she got it that her sacrifice (even though we all thought the egg costume was pretty cool) helped make Arden’s first Halloween really special. Mike talked to her about the “first shall be last” passages in the Bible, and I think she was even more proud.

This clown is at our local mall a lot. He's a good magician and juggler and has a lot of fun with the kids (and Mike!)

Arden likes the phone (who woulda thought a 12-year old girl would like talking on the phone?).
